Llangollen nestles within the beautiful Dee Valley in the North East of Wales. It is a town of varied parts, with plenty to interest the most discerning of visitors. It is also host to many different international events each year, the most famous being the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Llangollen is where the world comes to Wales and Wales welcomes the world.

The town of Llangollen, Clwyd, scene of the world famous International Eisteddfod, held there annually, derives its name from a 6th Century monk called Collen. The name Llangollen translates to 'St. Collen's Church' in English. He was an ex soldier who is said to have fought bravely against Julian the Apostate.

Following the Easter Rising in Dublin in 1916, which eventually led to Irish independence, 2000 Irish prisoners were interned, without trial, in the first prison camp ever built in Britain to hold Irish Political Prisoners. This camp was situated at, what must have seemed to them, the most alien territory of Frongoch, near Bala, in North Wales. On the 29 June 2002 a memorial plaque was unveiled beside the B4501 in the village of Frongoch.
